Chummy Chair Collection
In collaboration with Randy Kadarman (Antagonym)
Throughout history, one of the greatest obsessions artists have is blowing life into their work, whether it be a sculpture of David in 1504 or the Boston Dynamics Robot in present time. The Chummy Chair Collection explores the idea of blowing life into a chair with an elementary approach similar to how a child would play act with its doll: imagination and interaction.
The elements of the chair have been reduced to simple shapes with exaggerated proportions. This gives the chair an uncanny but humorous template for a character. By simply using a gooseneck fixture for the arms (see diagram on right), the chair comes to life and is ready to perform and interact. With actors and stage set, what remains is breathing life into the play with your imagination
